Seeing as her feast day came and went recently, and I hadn't yet created a veil in her honor, I thought I'd name this one for her.
Don't you love this painting? I do, anyway. It's titled, appropriately enough, St Joan de Arc. The artist's name is Jules Bastien-Lepage and it was painted in 1879.
I love the internal stare she has going on... It's really the first thing one notices when looking at the painting, isn't it? Then the outstretched arm. It's understood that she hears the interior voices. Then a backwards glance by the viewer confirms so much. We see the subtle impression of Arch Angel Gabriel and another angel behind him through the trees.
